I think that is the real difference in modern football, not only the first part happening but then the turn around.
Currently, Manchester City have not been beaten by more than a goal at home the last two seasons, for instance. (Blackburn were league leaders at the time from the old newspaper I read but finished 7th after losing 5 in a row in the spring. Not something I foresee happening with City)
But then you get the Leicesters and our first season under Bilic and we keep watching.

I was there when Blackburn beat us 2-8 Boxing day morning 11oclock kick off every time they attacked they scored.
We must have been pissed as we beat them 3-1 three days later.

The pitch at the OS is the same size as most PL pitches now, as they were standardised a few years back.
UP was 5m shorter than the OS but the same width so it’s not the pitch as the width is the same and the PL isn’t about long balls over the top all the time.

We conceded 27 goals at home last season, which was 1 more than we conceded at home in the last season at the Boleyn.
Don’t really see it as a stadium issue.

Having a bigger pitch exacerbates the gaps that teams like man city love to exploit.
This is the big difference. Saturday rice got overrun in midfield as he didnt have the support of noble or similar with him.
Not rocket science.

I think that it is unarguable that the gap in standard between the top and bottom teams has grown over the years that the EPL has been in existence.
It seems to me that more top versus the rest drubbings would take place but for the top teams regularly resting players and rotating their squads.

I think the main difference between now and years gone by is the CL helped create a top four, which has now extended to a top 6, all good enough for the latter stages of European football.
The sooner there is a super league for these clubs the better.

We seem to get smashed a lot more now. The gulf is certainly bigger than it was years ago, even when Man United were dominating.
I suggest that at Upton Park, although our squad depth may not have been as good as it is now, we had a player that on their day could run the game, most recently; Payet.
Most of the recent results are probably actually memories from "year 1" in the stadium though.
I do however present you with West Ham United 1 Swansea City 4. Thank fuck the Man United game got moved...

Apologies, it was 2-1 the season after Di Canio's masterclass against them. Just looked it up.
Unfortunately, Inoticed that they beat us 4-1 at home the season we went down in 88/89.
